The Cleveland Cavaliers are holding a 3-0 lead in this Eastern Conference finals series and can secure their place in the finals for the first time since 2007 with another win Tuesday night. They picked up two big wins at Atlanta (97-89, 94-82), but struggled in Game 3 home in Cleveland as Atlanta managed to force overtime where Cleveland eventually prevailed 114-111. The Hawks won the season series 3-1, and perhaps it’s too early to write off the Hawks just yet?
Atlanta Hawks (68-29, 56-39 ATS)
Jeff Teague had managed only 39 points over the first two games in the series combined but came up with a big performance Sunday, shooting 9-for-23 from the field and a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul-line for 30 points total. Paul Millsap pulled his weight as well with 22 points, going 11-for-11 from the foul-line while Shelvin Mack came off the bench and contributed with 13 points.
Cleveland Cavaliers (64-31, 46-49 ATS)
Lebron James dominated Game 3, as he has every game in the series, when he scored 37 points with 18 rebounds and 13 assists. There is a lot of pressure on James with both Love and Irving sidelined with injuries and he was forced to log 47 minutes in the overtime thriller. Iman Shumpert and Matthew Dellavedova added a threat from behind the arc going a combined 8-for-17 while J.R Smith came off the bench contributing 17 points.
Trends & Conclusion
The Cavaliers are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home at Quicken Loans Arena and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games playing on 1 days rest. Atlanta meanwhile is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 road games and 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Cleveland. With Atlanta coming out in do-or-die mode here I expect way more urgency from the visitors than from the hosts who can afford to take a day off. This is way too many points to give considering how the last game played out, and we recommend taking the points on the Atlanta Hawks.
