Bowling Green vs. Akron Betting Predictions 11/09/16 – Picks & Odds
Bowling Green Falcons vs. Akron Zips Betting Predictions, Picks & Odds for November 9, 2016. Watch the game at ESPNU, start 8:00 PM EST.
The Akron Zips will host the Bowling Green Falcons at InfoCision Stadium, Akron, Ohio Wednesday night in a battle of foes from the East Division of the MAC.
Bowling Green was in the conference title game last season, but the Falcons are the only MAC team from either division without a league win this season and they’re 1-8 straight up overall. Akron has split its games 5-5, but the Zips have lost three of their last four games. The Zips need at least one more win to become bowl eligible, but are likely to need at least two to seal the deal.
The Zips opened as an 8-point favorite but are now favored by as many as nine points at bookmakers such as 5Dimes and Bovada with 75 percent of the tickets backing the favorite. The total is set at 72 points.
Bowling Green Falcons
Bowling Green has lost seven straight games and took a 45-20 beating as a 17-point underdog at Northern Illionis last week. The Falcons are 2-7 ATS in their last nine games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall. They’ve covered the spread in just two of their nine games overall this season.
The Falcons have scored at least 20 points in each of their last five games. Quarterback James Morgan has thrown for 1,654 yards with 14 touchdown passes and 12 picks while sophomore receiver Scott Miller has reeled in a team high 64 catches for 849 yards and 10 scores.
Fred Coppet is the team’s leading rusher with 649 yards plus three scores on 149 carries. They have big issues on the defensive side of the ball and rank dead last in the FBS in allowing 45.1 points per game.
Akron is coming off a 48-17 setback as a 10-point underdog against Toledo last week. The Zips are 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday night games but just 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. They have lost three of their last four overall to drop to 5-5 for the season. They’ve been outgained by a minimum of 178 yardage in each of their last three defeats and lost the total yardage battle 622-444 while giving up 33 first downs against Toledo in their last contest.
Akron is 46th in the nation in scoring offense with 33.1 points per game, but they struggle defensively, ranking just 110th in the nation by allowing 35.6 points per game.
Quarterback Thomas Woodson has thrown for 2,079 yards with 18 touchdowns and six interceptions. Van Edwards Jr. contributes a team leading 401 yards and two scores on the ground while Jerome Lane has 53 receptions for a team leading 866 yards.
The Pick: Akron Zips -9
Akron has not played good football lately, but the team still has plenty to play for and we think the Zips can take advantage of the Falcons atrocious defense to en their two-game slide.
