Calgary Flames vs. Colorado Avalanche Free Pick 03/14/15
Play Calgary Flames ML.
The surging Calgary Flames have scored almost at will of late as they’ve tallied 27 goals over their last six games, claiming the win in five of those. They’re off dominant back-to-back 6-3 wins against the Ducks and the Maple Leafs who they faced in Toronto last night. The Flames may be playing on back-to-back nights, but that has not stopped them from performing earlier in the season going 8-2 in their last 10 games playing on 0 days of rest. The same can not be said about the Avs who have won four of their last five, but will play their fourth game in six days here, a situation where they’ve won only one of their last five.
Most teams dread a trip to the Rocky Mountains, but the Flames have had good success in Denver over recent seasons winning nine of the last 12 meetings at Pepsi Center. They’re a respectable 19-13-2 on the road for the season winning three of their last four away from home.
Both teams are aiming for a spot in the playoffs, but with the Avs only 12th in the conference and six points back of the final wild card not even the Colorado players can be too optimistic about their chances. Calgary meanwhile is second in the Pacific Division, but is chased by both the Nucks and the Kings who sits only a couple of points back.
Many “experts” have been waiting for the Flames to drop off, but it’s time to face reality and accept that they’re not over-performing but are here to stay. I think we’re getting an excellent price here on a strong team with a ton of motivation to take down the two points.
