Montreal Canadiens vs. Ottawa Senators Free Pick 04/19/15
The Habs did not disappoint home at Montreal as they’re coming to Ottawa with a 2-0 lead in this Eastern Conference quarter-finals series. I’m looking for them to keep that momentum going with yet another win against the Sens tonight.
Ottawa looked nothing like a team for the playoffs for most of the season, but then in stepped Andrew “the Hamburglar” Hammond. He led Ottawa to wins, out-duelling opposing goaltenders left right and center, posting a 20-1-2 record with a 1.79 GAA in the season’s final two months. He’s not been quite as sharp so far in the post-season though, allowing seven goals on 81 shots over the two games combined and perhaps it’s the 27 year old’s lack of routine shining through. Keep in mind, this is his mere second season in the NHL after playing less than 35 minutes of NHL hockey last season. For the Sens to even stand a chance here Hammond has to out-duel Carey Price, which is not an easy task to say the least. Keep in mind that three of the Sens five goals so far in the series have come on the man advantage, and you’ll realize how sharp Price has been with the team at full strength.
While I can appreciate that the Sens won 11 of 14 at home to close out the regular season, I don’t put much emphasis on that now. This is the playoffs, and the team must already be somewhat demoralized after back-to-back losses. Getting Montreal at this kind of price here is a bargain, and then we might consider taking a look at the Sens in Game 4 instead.
Play Montreal Canadiens.
