Oakland Athletics vs. Houston Astros Free Pick 04/14/15
Play Houston Astros.
The Astros suffered an embarrassing 8-1 defeat in the opener of this three game set against the A’s last night. They had mighty trouble solving Scott Kazmir, but keep in mind that they’re 13-3 in their last 16 after allowing five runs or more in their previous game and tonight’s pitching match-up leans in favor of the Texans.
The A’s are going with Kendall Graveman who was torched for eight runs on seven hits as he lasted only 3 1/3 innings in his debut as a starter. The 24 year old looked sharp in spring training but hurled only 4 2/3 innings out of the bullpen last year and it does not look like he’s ready to run with the big boys just yet. Houston will hand the ball to Brad Peacock who’s deemed fit again after recovering from a right hip surgery. He was 3-4 with a 4.38 ERA home at Minute Maid Park last year and the Astros are 4-0 in their last four games as a home favorite. Anyway, this is more a fade of Graveman than anything else, and the fact that the A’s are terrible when not favored as they’re 5-24 in their last 29 games coming in as an underdog.
