Are the Anaheim Ducks even aware the NHL season is underway yet? I, as many others, have the Ducks as one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup this year, but right now that does not seem very likely. I would hold the Ducks as one of the worst teams in the NHL here in the first week and half of the regular season with four defeats in as many games.

Neither the Chicago Blackhawks or the Tampa Bay Lightning finished the regular season within the top-two spots in their respective conference, but both teams have proved themselves more than worthy to be battling it out in the Stanley Cup final 2015. The Blackhawks are coming into the finals eyeing their third championship in six seasons while the Lightning are looking for their first since defeating the Flames over seven games back in 2004. The teams split two meetings during the regular season, and we’re sure to be in for a close series likely to go to seven games.

For the fourth time in five years and the fifth time in seven the Eastern Conference clubs and Metropolitan Division rivals the Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers are about to clash in the playoffs. The Rangers are looking to make a return trip to the Stanley Cup final, but If history is any indicator they’ll be in for a tough and long series here as the last two have gone seven games.

The Habs did not disappoint home at Montreal as they’re coming to Ottawa with a 2-0 lead in this Eastern Conference quarter-finals series. I’m looking for them to keep that momentum going with yet another win against the Sens tonight.

Take the Winnipeg Jets/Anaheim Ducks game OVER the posted total of 5 goals as your NHL free pick for Thursday night. This pick falls into one of my NHL systems and the O/U is 10-1-1 for the Jets in their last 12 games when playing a Pacific Division opponent.

The reigning Stanley Cup champions, coming off a devastating 4-2 defeat at Edmonton on Tuesday, trail the Flames by two points for third place in the Pacific and are three back of Winnipeg for the second wild card in the Western Conference.
March 23rd, 2015
The Jets are off four wins on the bounce as they’re visiting Western Conference foe the Oilers at Edmonton tonight. The hosts may be sitting near the bottom of the table, but they’ve at least got some offense going of late scoring four goals or more in five of their last seven games
March 14th, 2015
The surging Calgary Flames have scored almost at will of late as they’ve tallied 27 goals over their last six games, claiming the win in five of those. They’re off dominant back-to-back 6-3 wins against the Ducks and the Maple Leafs
March 10th, 2015
The Flyers suffered back-to-back losses over the weekend, first losing 3-2 in OT at Boston and then 5-2 at New Jersey Sunday. Tonight they’re looking to bounce back on home ice where they’ve won four of their last five games, and I think they’re looking good to keep pleasing the home crowd as they’re hosting a Stars team they have dominated over recent seasons.

The Sharks put themselves in a very tough position this past week after a loss to the Canucks at home on Saturday. They sit six points back of a Wild Card spot currently held by the Winnipeg Jets.
