The Chicago Blackhawks and the Washington Capitals will face off in the first hockey game of the new year in the annual Winter Classic. Both sides are coming off a good month of December, but the Caps have dropped two of their last three and I think they’ll come up short against a Blackhawks team looking to even out the season series today.

A revitalized Philadelphia Flyers team is coming into this clash as winners of back-to-back games, scoring a total of nine goals. The Tampa Bay Lightning have dropped four of their last five and their usually so efficient offense has been nowhere to be seen.

The Sharks have scored 24 goals over their last six games and the Wild have scored 11 over their last three. This might not sound like a good spot to back the under, but I doubt these two sides will come out all guns blazing here as neither team want to drop points to a Conference rival.
