Trap Games January 3, 2015
A dollar saved is worth just as much as a dollar earned, and sometimes knowing which picks to avoid can be just as valuable as knowing what to bet. In this series Mike Lundin is taking a look at “obvious bets” he deem to be traps and advice you to stay away from.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants -5.5
The public is all over the Giants in this matchup but I would tread very carefully. The Eagles posted a 27-7 win against the Giants on Oct. 19, and I think interim coach Pat Shurmur will get the very best of the Eagles players who seem to be relieved to see Chip Kelly getting the foot. The Giants are yielding an NFL-worst 419.3 yards per contest with 297.9 coming through the air, and Philly’s Sam Bradford is off back-to-back 360+ yards performances. My full focus on the gridiron today is on the Sunday Night Football, and you can find my premium picks here.
Ottawa Senators vs. Chicago Blackhawks ML (-181)
This price on the Blackhawks looks way too expensive to me, still roughly more than 3/4 of the bets on this match-up is on Chicago. Keep in mind that Ottawa will be desperate to record a win coming off a 3-0 loss against the Devils and going 1-3-1 in their last five. Chicago has struggled to keep the puck out of its own net lately giving up eight goals in the last two contests alone, and Ottawa has enough firepower to upset any team in the league on its day.
