Top 5 Betting Tips for 2022 NFL Season – Bet Like a Professional
Get ready to bet on NFL with our top 5 betting tips for the 2022 NFL season. These betting tips are guaranteed to improve you as a sports bettor.
1. Set a Bankroll & Line Shop
While this might seem obvious, you can’t bet without money, nor can you bet without someone to take your wagers.
As such, having a bankroll and somewhere to place our bets is absolutely critical.
What is not so obvious, and a mistake recreational bettors and aspiring pros alike make, is to not spread out their bankroll between different outs in order to line shop.
- First, decide on a bankroll. This is the total amount you are ready to deposit, and potentially lose without it affecting your lifestyle. This will be a different number for everyone.
- Next, spread out your money at a couple of sportsbooks – This will allow you to shop around for the best lines and odds, and also find unique betting types that not every sportsbook offers. The difference in props, live-betting markets, etc. can vary a lot from sportsbook to sportsbook, .
While the pros have accounts at every out possible, browsing through lines at different sportsbooks can be a quite time-consuming task.
To get started, we recommend you deposit at just a few sportsbooks to at least give you some options, and many times you can also get exclusive and juicy sign-up bonuses if you create a new account through our links! Why pass up on free money???
Three sportsbooks we recommend you to deposit at BetAnySports, BetOnline, and MyBookie, which all offer generous sign-up bonuses and many exotic betting markets.
2. Practice Good Bankroll Management
So, now you have your bankroll spread out at a couple of different sportsbooks to be able to shop around and give yourself a chance to get the best number possible, but how much should you wager per play for good bankroll management?
We recommend to never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on any single wager, and these wagers should be rare. Keep in mind, that even when you think you have a massive edge, do not overestimate your ability to process the information in relation to the sportsbooks and the betting market.
In fact, many professionals bet no more than 1% of their bankroll per wager, albeit with larger bankrolls and spread out over several bets. If you make only 3-5 bets per day, you can go a bit bigger than if you bet 10-20 games per day (something we do NOT recommend doing!).
Many pros also use the Kelly Criterion to vary their bet size, based on their perceived edge against the bookmaker’s odds. By using a calculator, you can enter your bankroll, the odds offered by your bookmaker, and your estimated probability of winning. The calculator will then spit out the optimal bet size.
3. Focus on Closing Line Value
Many pros will tell you to always bet early in the week, but that will not always be your best bet. Instead, you should put your focus on beating the closing line.
As an example, if you bet the Patriots -3.5 early in the week and they close at -5.5, you did a great job and all but guaranteed to show a profit in the long run.
You could of course still lose any single wager at any given time, but considering how good the beating market is at betting the numbers to a near 50/50 proposition, getting 2-3 points extra on every single wager you make would turn heaps of losing tickets into winners.
So if you bet the Patriots -3.5 on Tuesday and they close at -1.5 come game time, you are likely to lose money long-term. Trying to anticipate line moves is a big part of being a profitable bettor. How to anticipate line moves you might ask? Unfortunately, there is no easy answer as that comes with experience and following the news, as many line moves are fueled by injury reports.
One thing to keep in mind is that the bookmaker often shade the lines against public teams. You can read more about it in our article about betting against the public.
